POISONESS MAENAD

MIRROR DOES NOT SAY LIES DIGITAL VERSION BY CHRYSSA VELISSARIOU 2014

The poem was written by me in Greek first and it is sited in the ancient times where my area, Thessaly, was famous for its terrible women sorceresses, whose names and actions are still remembered throughout the centuries. The poem is based on ancient rituals and myths. Of course as always there is a very important second meaning behind it! So think and feel it!

You must ignore the madness of a Maenad
when the super-bright Moon
changes its phase .

Three-headed Hecate leads her then,
emerging again and again through infinite seasons,
calling her priestess to achieve to be god-bearer
through mystic incantations
and wine flavored with herbs,
which sowed the saddlebag
of the poisoness Medea

Maybe she dances naked in the holy ancient Phila,
on the outskirts of Olympus,
screaming or murmuring unintelligible words,
reincarnating Circe,
eating her own flesh and
quenching her thirst with her own blood .

The wanton witch from Thessaly
forgets her virginity ,
which belongs to Artemis,
and obeying her unruly passions,
stimulates the lust of semi-dying lovers,
burying magic curses written on metal charms
inside the graves of recent deads
salivating over nature,
necrophilic and necromanceress
as abhorrent Erichtho,
trespassing mental limits,
endowed by Dionysus with the holy mania.

But when daylight finds her ,
purified from her bloody profligacy,
she has exceeded human achievements
and has conquered a position
closer to the greatness of Gods.
Do not dare then to talk to her with disrespect
about her full moon unholy infernal rites
or even to cross your mind to denounce them ...

Bacchus will turn you
into a completely deranged soul
or, as they did to Pentheus,
furious Bacchae will devour you.
